Fishing

For Anna Maria Island fishing, you can fish off an Anna Maria fishing pier, charter a boat for offshore fishing, or do inshore fishing. For the best seafood on Anna Maria Island, catch it yourself!

Pier Fishing

Pier fishing is fun and easy. You can find everything you need in local bait and tackle shops, including fishing rods. Anyone over age 16 who is not a Florida resident needs a fishing license to fish off a pier. You can get them at Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, or order them online.

The Bradenton Beach City Pier is on the north side of Sarasota Bay. It’s the island portion of an original bridge that used to connect the island to the mainland until the current drawbridge was constructed. There is a pavilion on the pier to provide shade during your lazy day of fishing. There is also a bait and tackle shop that will provide you with all your fishing needs.

Rod and Reel Pier was destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017 but was rebuilt to be better than ever. The Rod and Reel restaurant is on the pier for a little pre- or post-fishing sustenance.

Offshore Fishing

You can charter a boat and do some exciting offshore fishing. You might be able to catch some fish like barracuda, kingfish, or sharks. Most of the time, the boat charter company will take care of the fishing license for you, so that is one less thing for you to have to think about. We can recommend some great AMI boat charter companies.

Inshore Fishing

You can fish right from the beach or from rocks at the shoreline. Be sure to check out the beach near the Coquina Beach Jetty. It’s a popular place for many fish to swim by. You can get up early to catch the early-rising fish, or fish at sunset. This way, you’ll beat the heat of the day and have the opportunity for real peace and quiet.

Seafood Markets

If you don’t enjoy fishing, let the local fisherman do the job for you. We have recommendations for great Anna Maria Island seafood markets.

Star Fish Co Seafood market

Star Fish Co Seafood market has been on Anna Maria Island for almost 100 years. It has always been dedicated to providing customers with tasty fresh seafood. It’s right on the dock and provides seafood you can take home to prepare yourself, cooked seafood dishes, and sandwiches that you can eat on picnic tables with a lovely view of mangrove islands, Jewfish Key, Longboat Key, and Bradenton Beach. They also serve beer and wine.

Captain Anthony’s Seafood

Captain Anthony has lived in Florida his whole life and had his first boat at age 12. He goes out and tirelessly catches stone crabs so he can provide you with their claws. You must try stone crab claws, freshly caught by Captain Anthony and his company!

Island Fresh Market AMI

Island Fresh Market carefully selects the best seafood and groceries to ensure you have the best and freshest food you can find. The people at Star Fish Co are proud of their consistency, long-term relationships with customers, professionalism, and quality.
