Planning Your Trip & Booking
Why choose a vacation rental over a hotel on Anna Maria Island?
Staying in a Lizzie Lu vacation rental offers distinct advantages over traditional hotels, especially for an island getaway:
- Local Experience: Live like a local in a residential neighborhood rather than a tourist corridor.
- Space: The average hotel room is 325 sq. ft., while our rentals average over 1,200 sq. ft., giving your family room to breathe.
- Kitchens: Save money on dining by using a full chef’s kitchen instead of a hotel mini-fridge.
- Privacy: Enjoy private heated pools, private entrances, and no crowded lobbies.
What is the difference between Anna Maria City, Holmes Beach, and Bradenton Beach?
Anna Maria Island is divided into three distinct cities, each with a unique vibe:
- Bradenton Beach (South): Lively and energetic with deeper beaches and nightlife. Best for activity seekers and younger groups.
- Anna Maria City (North): Quiet, residential, and historic with an “Old Florida” feel. Best for relaxing, couples, and quiet luxury.
- Holmes Beach (Central): The hub of the island with the most restaurants, shopping, and grocery stores. Best for families and convenience.
Where is the closest beach access?
Because Anna Maria Island (AMI) is a narrow barrier island, the closest beach access is typically a short walk to the western end of almost every residential street. The beach itself runs the entire length of the Gulf side of the island. In the City of Anna Maria and Holmes Beach, most roads that intersect with Gulf Drive or North Shore Drive terminate directly at a public sandy path leading to the Gulf.
Neighborhood & Major Public Access Points:
- Coquina Beach (Bradenton Beach): Located at the southern tip of the island, this expansive, family-friendly beach offers abundant shaded parking under Australian pines, a paved multi-use trail, and full facilities.
- City of Anna Maria: Access paths are at the west ends of most streets from White Avenue north to Bean Point.
- Holmes Beach: Public access is available on almost every street from White Avenue down to 28th Street, with the exception of the 56th to 64th Street block.
- Manatee Public Beach (Holmes Beach): Located centrally where Manatee Ave meets the Gulf, this is a primary access point featuring free parking, lifeguards, restrooms, and a beachfront café.
What are the best things to do on Anna Maria Island?

- Hit the Beaches: Enjoy the powdery white sands and stunning Gulf Coast sunsets at Bean Point, Manatee Public Beach, or Coquina Beach.
- Explore Pine Avenue & Bridge Street: Shop at local boutiques, grab a custom treat at The Donut Experiment, and stroll down the historic Anna Maria City Pier or Bradenton Beach City Pier to watch the fishermen and pelicans.
- Get on the Water: Rent a kayak or paddleboard to explore the scenic mangrove tunnels at Robinson Preserve, book a family-friendly sunset dolphin cruise, or charter a fishing boat.
- Dine Like a Local: Enjoy fresh, gulf-to-table seafood at our famous laid-back waterfront restaurants.

Which airport is closest to Anna Maria Island?
- Sarasota-Bradenton International (SRQ): The closest option, approximately 30 minutes away.
- Tampa International (TPA): The largest hub with the most direct flights, approximately 55–70 minutes away.
- St. Pete-Clearwater (PIE): A great budget-friendly option, approximately 50–60 minutes away.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
- Over 30 Days: Reservations canceled more than 30 days before arrival receive a full refund minus a $150 cancellation fee (and any third-party travel insurance fees).
- 30 Days or Less: Cancellations made within 30 days of arrival are non-refundable. However, if we are able to re-rent the property for your dates, you may be eligible for a partial refund based on the amount recovered.
Note: Refunds are processed back to the original payment method.
What is the minimum age to rent a property?
The primary renter must be at least 25 years of age. This person must stay at the property for the duration of the rental period.
Are your vacation rentals pet-friendly?
Yes! We know dogs are family too. We offer a specific selection of Pet-Friendly Vacation Rentals.
- Restrictions: Generally, we allow dogs up to a certain weight limit (check specific property details). Cats and other animals are typically not permitted due to allergies.
- Policy: Pets must be disclosed at booking. A non-refundable pet fee applies.
What is the maximum occupancy for my rental?
Occupancy is strictly regulated by city ordinances to prevent overcrowding:
- Anna Maria City: 2 guests per bedroom + 2 additional guests (e.g., a 3-bedroom home = 8 guests max).
- Holmes Beach: 2 guests per bedroom or 6 guests total, whichever is greater.
Strict Rule: exceeding the maximum occupancy can result in immediate eviction without refund.
Arrival & Transportation
Do I need a car on Anna Maria Island?
You do not strictly need a standard rental car. The island is very pedestrian-friendly, but the most fun and convenient way to get around is by GEM Car.
- Free Trolley: Runs the length of the island daily from 6 AM to 10 PM.
- Gem Cars: These street-legal, luxury electric carts are open-air, easy to park, and perfect for the island lifestyle.
Do you offer golf cart or GEM Car rentals?
Yes! We highly recommend enhancing your stay with a GEM Car rental. Unlike standard golf carts, GEM Cars are fully street-legal, have safety features like seatbelts and turn signals, and are the preferred way to explore the island.
Click here to reserve your GEM Car (We recommend booking in advance as they can sell out during peak weeks).
Is there parking available at the rentals?
Yes, every rental includes private off-street parking.
- Strict Rule: No street parking is allowed on Anna Maria Island vacation rentals. You must park in the driveway or garage.
- Capacity: Most driveways fit 2–4 vehicles.
Why Rent a GEM Car? Since parking space is limited, renting a GEM Car saves driveway space and makes parking at the beach/restaurants significantly easier.
When do I receive arrival instructions?
We ensure you are prepared well in advance:
- 2 Weeks Prior: You receive a comprehensive “Check-In Email” with your unique door code and parking info.
- Week of Arrival: A text message summary is sent to your phone.
- Day of Arrival: A final reminder text puts the door code at the top of your inbox for easy access.
How do I access the property?
All Lizzie Lu’s properties utilize secure, keyless smart locks.
- No Keys: You do not need to visit an office.
- Activation: Your personal code becomes active strictly at 4:00 PM on your arrival day.
During Your Stay (Amenities & Rules)
What is included in the Lizzie Lu starter kit?
To ensure you can relax immediately upon arrival, we provide a “Starter Kit” of essentials to get you through your first few days:
- Kitchen: Hand soap, dish soap, sponge, dishwasher pods, 1 roll of paper towels, coffee starter (sugar/creamer), and trash bags.
- Bathroom: Travel-size shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, hand soap, and 2 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom.
- Laundry: A starter supply of laundry detergent.
Note: Guests are responsible for replenishing these items for the remainder of their stay.
How are linens and towels cleaned?
Cleanliness is our highest priority. We are a bit obsessive about a clean property and linens; it is the single most important standard we uphold. We believe that a great vacation starts with peace of mind, which is why we’ve moved away from the industry standard of using third-party contractors.
Our Personal Commitment to Quality:
- In-House Team: Our cleaning staff are not vendors; they are valued members of our team who have been personally trained to spot the “invisible” details. We utilize two distinct teams for every turnover: an Interior Team and an Exterior Team. This ensures that the person cleaning the grill in the Florida heat is never the same person making your bed or handling your fresh towels.
- The Total Linen Reset: We follow a strict “total reset” policy. Every single linen including duvet covers is removed and professionally laundered between every guest, whether they appear used or not.
- The Signature Inspection: Before we hand over the property every home is personally inspected by one of our inspectors. If it isn’t perfect, it isn’t ready.
- Deep Clean Philosophy: Beyond the standard turnover, we perform a comprehensive deep clean a minimum of twice a year. We also use any vacancy in our calendar as an opportunity to refresh the property from top to bottom, ensuring everything stays in “like-new” condition. During this time, we also completely re-inventory the home, ensuring every kitchen utensil, amenity, and household item is accounted for and in top condition.
What beach equipment is provided?
We want you to enjoy the sand without the hassle! Every rental typically includes:
- Beach Wagon (for easy hauling)
- Beach Chairs (approx. 2 per bedroom)
- Umbrella
- Cooler
Note: We do not provide beach toys (to reduce plastic waste), but you are welcome to use any left behind by previous guests.
Are the pools heated? Is there an extra fee for heated pools?
Yes! Our pools are heated at no additional cost.
- Temperature: We aim to maintain pools around 85°F.
- Winter Note: During cold spells (Dec–Feb), electric heat pumps may struggle to combat low air temperatures. This is a limitation of the technology, not a malfunction.
- Quiet Hours: Pool equipment automatically shuts off at 10:00 PM to comply with island noise ordinances.
When is Sea Turtle Season in Anna Maria Island, and what are the rules?
Sea Turtle Season runs from May 1 through October 31. During this time, we must protect nesting turtles and hatchlings.
Critical Rules:
- Lights Out: Close curtains/blinds after dark. Turn off outdoor lights that face the beach.
- Clear the Sand: Remove all chairs, tents, and toys from the beach at sunset. Obstacles can trap turtles.
- Fill Holes: Fill in sandcastles and holes before you leave the beach so hatchlings don’t get stuck.
- No Flash: Do not use flashlights or flash photography on the beach at night.

Can I request Early Check-In or Late Check-Out?
You may request early entry or late departure, but it is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed, especially during peak seasons.
- Standard Times: Check-in is 4:00 PM; Check-out is 10:00 AM.
- Notification: If your home is ready before 4:00 PM, we will text you immediately. Please do not arrive at the property before this notification, as it delays our inspection teams.
What happens if I leave something behind?
We use a digital Lost & Found logging system.
- Please check all drawers and outlets (chargers!) before departing.
- If our team finds an item, we log it and contact you.
- We can ship small items back to you for the cost of shipping plus a small handling fee.
Safety/Legal
What is Red Tide?
Red Tide is a naturally occurring microscopic algae bloom in the Gulf of Mexico. It can sometimes cause respiratory irritation or discolored water. Because it is a natural phenomenon (like a hurricane or rain) and outside our control, Red Tide conditions do not qualify for refunds or cancellation exceptions. We recommend checking the FWC Red Tide Status Report for real-time updates.
What are your tropical weather & hurricane procedures
We closely monitor tropical weather to help keep our guests informed and safe. Below are answers to common questions regarding storms, tropical systems, and hurricanes.
What happens if there is a tropical storm or hurricane during my stay?
- Tropical weather is a normal part of life on the Gulf Coast, especially during hurricane season (June–November). Most tropical systems result in rain or wind and do not require evacuation. If a storm develops, we actively monitor official guidance from the National Hurricane Center and local authorities.
- If conditions change, we will communicate directly with guests regarding any necessary preparations or safety instructions.
Will I receive a refund if it rains or a storm is forecast?
No refunds are issued for:
- Rainy weather
- Tropical storms or Hurricanes that do not result in a mandatory evacuation
- Forecasted storms that do not impact the area
Weather forecasts can change quickly, and we encourage guests to purchase travel insurance for protection against unforeseen weather-related disruptions.
What if there is a mandatory evacuation?
If local or state authorities issue a mandatory evacuation order for the property’s location:
- Guests will be required to vacate for safety reasons. We ask that you bring your belongings with you in the event the island remains closed for an extended period of time after the storm passes.
- Once the evacuation order is lifted, guests may return if conditions allow.
What if I choose to leave early or cancel due to a storm?
If a guest chooses to depart early or cancel without a mandatory evacuation order in place, standard cancellation policies apply and refunds are not guaranteed.
How will I be notified if a storm affects my reservation?
We will contact guests via:
- Phone or text (if provided)
Please ensure your contact information is up to date prior to arrival.
Should I purchase travel insurance?
Yes. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers weather-related events. This is the best way to protect your investment if your plans are affected by tropical weather.
What should I do to prepare as a guest?
If there is an active storm threatening our area we recommend:
- Monitoring weather updates from official sources
- Bringing flexibility into travel plans during hurricane season
- Following any instructions we provide if weather conditions change
Our Commitment
Your safety is our top priority. We will always follow guidance from local officials and communicate clearly and promptly should tropical weather impact your stay.
What happens if my rental is sold?
You don’t have to worry about this at Lizzie Lu’s Island Retreat.
Lizzie Lu’s proudly owns every property we offer, so our homes are never sold to outside owners. That means your reservation is safe, secure, and won’t be affected by a property being removed from a rental program.
Is there construction near my rental?
While we do our best to stay informed, construction and maintenance projects in the surrounding area are managed by local authorities or neighboring property owners, and they are not required to notify us in advance.
All construction must follow local ordinances, which typically limit work to daytime hours, often between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, though this can vary by location.
Please note that construction activity outside of our property is beyond our control, and refunds or compensation are not provided for noise or inconvenience related to nearby construction. That said, we are always here to support you and answer any questions to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
