Explore Bean Point With Your Family in Anna Maria Island

While browsing through some of the stunning Anna Maria Island vacation rentals that are available, you might have come across mention of Bean Point. This area is something of a hidden gem, and one of the best things to do with kids in Anna Maria. This secret spot has one of the most stunning views of the beach and taking in a sunset from here is a total treat.

This spot is named after AMI’s first permanent resident, George Emerson Bean.

Of course, this little-known spot isn’t talked about too much, and most people come upon the spot where Bean’s original homestead was located by total accident.

But we’re about to let you in on this secret and tell you how to find Bean Point.

Where is Bean Point?

There are no signs. No parking lots. Just pure nature. That’s why you’ll need to know where Bean Point is located before trying to get there. It can be found at the northernmost tip of the island. If you’re staying in one of the AMI rentals in Anna Maria City, then you just need to take a short walk northeast until you come to North Shore Drive. Bean Point Beach is located across the street from the intersection of Fern Street and North Shore Drive.

Walk north along the beach, and you will find yourself right there at Bean Point, looking out at Passage Key Inlet.

Directions to Bean Point?

If you are staying south of Anna Maria City, you can hop the free trolley and head to the city. You need to go north of the City Pier on North Bay Boulevard and find the tree-lined path that separates two properties at the intersection between North Shore Drive and North Bay Boulevard. You can take a bike on the path and park it next to a wooden footbridge.

Plan Your Visit

We have a variety of family-friendly rentals near Bean Point. Contact us for more information on planning your dream vacation!

However, if you drive, try parking at an entrance where you see signs labeled “Public Beach Access”. These don’t give you immediate access but will take you along the shoreline. Just bear in mind that parking is strictly enforced on AMI, so if you park in a “no parking” spot, expect to get ticketed.

Park your vehicle, then head up the closest path to find where the Gulf meets Tampa Bay. Turn right when you get onto the sand, then walk north to the point. You’ll be able to see the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and, when the tide is low, the sand bar that sits just off the coastline.

Things to Do

Bean Point is the place to go if you want to relax away from the general hubbub of the cities on AMI. You can dip your toes in the sand, try your hand at shelling, take some pictures, and – of course – spot tons of wildlife. Birdwatchers will be quick to snapshots of the Point’s feathered residents. In fact, this is known to be the best spot on the island for birdwatching! Grab your camera and come enjoy the gorgeous Anna Maria Island weather! When the tide is going out, the current can be quite strong here, so please be cautious.
